What to do around?

-Zunil (authentic village, with church, cooperative and some weird religion) and Fuentes georginas (spa in jungle). Really easy to do it by yourself : chicken bus leaves every 20mn from crossing 10a calle and 9a avenue. 30mn of amazing beautiful bus. When you going out, you can take a camionnette waiting in the bridge to go to fuentes. Should be 5Q of chicken and 20Q of camionnette. There is a weird religion (mix of catholic and maya) called san Simon (ask around to find the house where they celebrate it). Coopérative (where they sell local clothes) is right of the church when u climbing

-tajumulco (hightest volcano of central America) u can do it by ur own. U have to sleep in san Marcos, take a early chicken bus and do it in one day (easier to climb than acatenango), there is a lot of local doing it so it is safe. If u are good enough, u can be back at 5pm in Xela.

-Chichicastenango. I don t like the market and the place, but u can do it easily in 2h chicken bus. U have to change at las encuentos

-laguna chicabal, nice lake in a volcano where there is Maya mystic magic occuring there. U have to take a chicken bus to san Martin (45mn) and ask to be drop. Then it is straight for 1h30 of climbing, the walk is so nice, lot of birds, nice villages. U can hichhicke or pay 5Q if u don t want to climb (maybe u can just do the way down). One of my favorite. U have to pay 25Q for entrance

-volcano Santa maria, havent done it but seems good and easy to do

In Xela,

-the baul

Small hill south east of Xela, u have to fallow calle 5a until the end. Not so much to do, but nice view. Don t do it alone.

A market in zona 3, u just have to go north avenida 15 or
